A contractor's quote commits thousands of euros, yet few know how to read one. Performance BTP analyses your quotes with an independent eye: neither seller nor stakeholder in the works, only your ally.
The contractor who issues a quote is both judge and party. Performance BTP has no stake in the works: its analysis serves the client alone. We check price consistency with the market, completeness (forgotten items that resurface as extras), and the clarity of described services.
A quote can be inflated on some items and dangerously thin on others. Both are traps: one drains the budget, the other sets up future extras. The analysis compares each item to real Paris-region market prices and flags discrepancies, in both directions.
Three quotes are only comparable if they cover the same scope. Performance BTP brings them onto an identical basis to reveal the true best value — often different from the lowest headline total. The client then decides with full knowledge.
Our quote analysis grid follows a rigorous 5-step method. Step 1 — Completeness: does the quote cover all necessary items? We identify missing works (often deliberately omitted to appear cheaper) that reappear as "additional works" mid-project. Step 2 — Price consistency: comparison with our IDF market price database, updated quarterly. Step 3 — Material quality: tiling, insulation, plumbing — do the specified references match the announced quality level? Step 4 — Contract terms: validity periods, deposits, late penalties, payment conditions. Step 5 — Insurance: valid decennial and public liability cover? Up-to-date certificates?
Having analysed hundreds of construction quotes, we have identified recurring traps. The incomplete quote: an electrician who omits the distribution board and conduits (a façade saving of 15-20%). Abnormally low price on one item: a signal of poor material quality or a deliberate underestimate to win the contract. Lack of detail: "supply and fit tiling 80 m²: €8,000 ex-VAT" without specifying brand, format or thickness — impossible to compare. Unbalanced payment terms: 50% on order is too much for a homeowner with no guarantees.
Performance BTP does not carry out works and receives no commission from any company we analyse or recommend. This total independence is the guarantee of our objectivity. Our quote analysis fees are fixed and known in advance — they do not depend on the quote amount. On our most recent comparative analysis missions, the average saving obtained by our clients on the final works amount was 18 to 25% compared to the first quote received.
An investor had three quotes for a renovation, from 32,000 to 51,000 €. The analysis showed the cheapest excluded removal, waste disposal and electrics, while the most expensive overcharged labour by 30%. The mid-range, well-structured quote was actually the best value. An informed decision, several thousand euros saved.
Always have your quotes analysed BEFORE signing, never after. Once the contract is signed and the deposit paid, your negotiating room collapses. The right time to challenge a quote is while the contractor still wants to win the job.
